059 Harpreet Chana

On today's episode you guys are in for a treat as I welcome the wonderful Harpreet Chana to the podcast. Harpreet is an experienced pharmacist, certified professional coach, self-leadership trainer, international speaker and the founder of the Mental Wealth Academy. I reached out to her as she has experience in two unique roles as a pharmacist which you don't hear about on a regular basis.

  • NPA - Digital Programme Director and Consultant Project Manager

  • PSNC - Head of Funding Strategy and Head of Pricing

However, when we started talking, the conversation flowed in a completely different direction and I decided to enjoy it and live in the present moment.

Harpreet is the founder of the Mental Wealth Academy. She created the academy because of her personal experience of battling with years of stress, anxiety, depression and insomnia. She didn't tell anyone about her struggles for fear of judgement and recrimination, both personally and professionally. She found little support online for people who were suffering with ill mental health yet were still able to function day to day. Because of this, she wanted to make it her personal mission to eradicate the suffering that arises from negative inner thoughts, or a lack of essential life and leadership skills. These are the skills nobody teaches us at school or university. They are the tools that enable us to be more confident, resilient and in better control of our thoughts, emotions and perceptions. These skills can help to prevent mental health related illness. She also wanted to create more mentally positive and stimulating work environments that encourage openness and honesty around mental health and that promote healthy mental practices, both at home and at work.

This episode raises some very common concerns related to working as a pharmacist in the UK. Harpreet provides us with some powerful yet simple tools to use in your day-to-day work life, especially for those moments when you feel overwhelmed with a million tasks and don't know how to say no or can't find the courage to speak up to your employer.

I loved her approach to problem solving and turning a negative situation into a positive one. I also found her advice on mindset and negative thoughts really insightful. Please check out her website! I am sure she would be happy to receive emails for advice and support. She has tailored group and 1-2-1 training programmes which focus on confidence, resilience, emotional intelligence and better communication.
